2007 Season Summary
This year we have had 469 players playing in 48 teams 5th–Open grade. We ended the WJSA season with 3 Preliminary winners, 8 Championship Winners and 7 5-A-Side Gold Medal Winners. The highlight of the season was all 5 of the Cambridge 1st teams winning the WJSA knockout cup for their grade, a first not only for Cambridge but also the WJSA. To top it all the Cambridge Open Grade 1st team took back the Challenge shield which has been held by Peachgrove for the past few years.
We have tried a couple of new things this year including the “coaching for coaches” session held in the first half of the season, this proved to be very popular and we hope to expand on it for next year by supplying both beginners and advanced sessions. Another new thing was the free extra coaching sessions for players, this was held over 6 weeks on a Friday evening and the feedback from all involved was very positive, again I hope that it is something we can expand on next year.
As we move on into next season we hope for a few more changes and improvements – a new junior sub committee will help to spread the heavy workload and with more people on board it will mean more time to devote to new ideas and initiatives. We look forward to seeing some new facilities at the junior grounds, this will also mean some fundraising activities to help with the finishing touches. We also hope to provide more free coach education, referee training and also player education. The aim is to kick off registration and trials at least a month earlier next year in order to give teams a chance to start training together before the season starts, this will mean that the information evening and registration will be very soon after the start of the new school year. |
